This paper conssiders what sort of national constitution the people of Massachusetts might support in 1789, considering how it might differ from the Constitution actually written and how it might be the same, with the belief that in general the people of Massachusetts would develop a constitution with many of the same principles, based on the idea of the consent of the governed and on direct democracy as a ruling principle.
