This paper reports on the history and use of encaustic painting, an ancient method used by artists until the fourteenth century, revived in the nineteenth, and used for murals in the twentieth as well as for other types of art, the method involving the use of hot wax and a heated tool to keep the wax hot while it is being used and applied to the wood, stone, or canvas.
