Rhetoric and Semiotics in Modern Journalism: An Analysis of CNN.com.
This paper is an analysis of CNN.com's site in terms of rhetorical devices that the site itself, as well as the phenomenon of online journalism, uses in order to "spin" stories that could be treated factually. It summarizes the uses and purpose of rhetoric, and follows with a close analysis of some of the headlines and images that CNN.com uses, giving carefully considered hypotheses about their intended effects. 5 pgs.
