In the business world, it can safely be said that employment is possibly the most regulated form of business transaction. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 proscribes discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, and religion and is one of the most important federal laws in relation to employment. Perhaps the most important provision of this Act, as related to this topic, is Title VII. Within Title VII is 42 U.S.C.A. ยง 2000e-3, which is an anti-retaliation provision. This paper will provide a word-by-word definition and/or explanation of each key word or phrase in the law, a summary of the law (including an explanation of the purpose and effect of the law) and will conclude with an editorial comment.
