Field Experiences in Elementary Arts and Science Classes
This 5-page undergraduate essay describes the authors experiences in educational field work. The author describes three elementary-level music classes attended. The author describes visiting and taking part in a grade one, a grade four, and a grade six music class. In each case, the goal of the activity observed seemed to be to encourage students to improvise melodies, variations, and accompaniments. In each case, the author describes the activity, provides a brief description of the lesson plan, and offers observations about the experience. Secondly, the author describes a visit to a grade 8 science class in which the students were taking part in a unit about biology. The field report includes a brief description of the teaching methods used and observations made about the class and about the teaching methods employed by the instructor.
