This essay is an examination of the structure and function of depletion mode metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs). The paper describes the role that MOSFETs play in modern computing. In addition, it examines and illustrates the manner in which MOSFETs are constructed, with particular attention paid to the engineering hurtles that were surmounted in the process.
