This paper addresses the place of conflict in psychoanalytic theory. It mainly focuses on the Freudian and developmental theories of conflict. It discusses the importance of resolving internal conflicts (anal, oral, latent, genital) in order to ensure proper psychological development, and it places conflict in perspective as the proper focus of the psychoanalytic process.
