Although the island of Shakespeare's Tempest is far removed from the political machinations of Milan, from where Prospero has fled, we discover that the island is not bereft of the political structure, which existed in the Dukedom. Prospero, in fact, dominates the island in a political manner and has subordinated his daughter, Miranda and the savage, Caliban, to his will.
