Fighting the Future: The Future of the Micro-States of the Caribbean.
This paper will argue that, historically, the political and social diversity and divisions of the micro-states of the Caribbean basin have exacerbated the region's economic weakness and increased its dependency upon outside agencies. However, the possibilities for a brighter future lie in an acknowledgment by the people and polities of the region of the realities of a globalized marketplace dominated by large trading blocs such as NAFTA and the EU. In such dangerous waters, the only viable future for the micro-states of the Caribbean lies in a rejection of history and a closer integration of their political and economic cultures. 11 pgs.
